IRVC Members Visit Mobarakeh Steel Company in Isfahan
On October 2, 2024 (11 Mehr 1403), following its annual general assembly, members of the Iranian Venture Capital Association (IRVC) visited the Mobarakeh Steel Company in Isfahan. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize members with the company’s production processes and explore its capacity for innovation-oriented collaboration.
The event opened with remarks by Dr. Yahya Palizdar, CEO of the Technology and Innovation Support Company of Mobarakeh Steel and CEO of Mobarakeh Steel VC Fund. He emphasized that Mobarakeh annually invests approximately 5–7 trillion IRR in partnerships with knowledge-based companies, aiming to promote localization and industrial sustainability.
Dr. Palizdar highlighted the crucial role of large industries like Mobarakeh Steel in driving national economic growth, and praised the growing involvement of venture capital in enabling innovation and transformation across strategic sectors. He noted that one of the fund’s key missions is to ensure long-term sustainability of Iran’s steel industry.
He also introduced “Fooladi Sho,” a corporate innovation initiative designed to identify and support investable startups. So far, over 700 companies have applied through this platform, leading to 43 VC investments, including:
24 in business development
15 in technological advancement
4 in acceleration programs
These investments have benefited provinces such as Tehran, Alborz, East Azerbaijan, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, Zanjan, Semnan, and Hormozgan, with upcoming expansion to Fars and Markazi.
Dr. Palizdar added that every investment in the steel innovation ecosystem is currently routed through Fooladi Sho, covering technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT, sustainable energy and water supply, among others. To date, 336 billion IRR has been allocated to stabilize supply chains, with additional funding committed to related sectors.
Following the presentation, participants were guided on a tour of the Mobarakeh Steel facilities, including the water treatment plant, pelletizing hall, steel melting section, and hot rolling line. An expert tour leader provided detailed technical explanations and historical background, answering participants’ questions along the way.
